Karen Sock, a widely respected leader on the Mississippi Gulf Coast, died at 73, leaving behind a legacy of vision, service, and opportunity for countless people across South Mississippi.

Sock made history in 1997 as the first African American woman to lead the daily operations of a full-service casino for a major company, building a reputation for strong leadership in Biloxi and Tunica.

Beyond business, Sock devoted much of life to helping young people imagine brighter futures.

As co-founder of Pathways2Possibilities, Sock helped create a career exploration experience that reached more than 124,000 students across Mississippi.

Sock also led Sock Enterprises, supported the United Way, and served as board chair of the National Diabetes and Obesity Research Institute.

Family members and admirers remember Sock for living with grace, kindness, and purpose throughout a long journey with metastatic breast cancer.

Sock is survived by husband Frederick Sock and daughter Kristan.

The Mississippi Gulf Coast now remembers a trailblazer whose work opened doors for others and whose compassion shaped communities across the state.

Memorial service details will be announced later by the family.
