Benjamin G. Sandrock, 50, and Connor L. Sandrock, 21, lost their lives on April 13, 2026, following a devastating train collision near Savanna, Illinois.

Authorities reported that the father and son, residents of rural Lyndon, were traveling in a pickup truck towing a boat when it collided with a southbound train shortly before 3 p.m. at a private railroad crossing near the Savanna Tri-Township Airport.

Emergency responders arrived quickly, but the severity of the impact left little chance for survival, as one individual passed at the scene and the other later at a medical facility.
